Let's Build Your Family Tree...
|
For this part of the project you will provide your descendants with the names, dates and places of births and deaths of your family and your direct ancestors. By leaving this information for your grandchildren, you are teaching them about their origins. This will allow them to understand that how they live and where they live are the result of the labors and risks taken by those family members who came before them.

You provide this information in the form of an Ancestral Chart. There are two ways you may complete the chart. One way is to download the form and complete it by typing the information or filling it in by hand. Or, if you prefer, you may download one of the Family Tree Programs. You will find the links to two programs at the bottom of this page. With this software you will be able to enter your information and then print a professional-looking Ancestral Chart. We don't expect you to do extensive research to provide this information. Most of us know information about our parents. Some of us know information about our grandparents, and a few of us know about generations that came even before them. Just provide as much information as you know. If you don't know something, then leave it blank. Some information is better than none! To see an example of a completed Ancestral Chart click here. |

If You Want to Be Very Thorough...
you may want to include Family Group Sheets in your file. A Family Group consists of a mother, father, and children (if there are any). By providing these sheets, you are leaving information about your Extended Family.
You would complete one sheet for your family, one sheet each for your parents' families, one each for your grandparents' families, one sheet each for your siblings' families, one sheet for your children's families, etc. The form is self explanatory. You will find an example of a completed Family Group Sheet by clicking here. You may read an explanation of the proper way to complete the form by clicking here. Provide as much or little data as you want. If you do not know some of the information, leave it blank. Something is always better than nothing. |
